The Spiral lamps series has been designed by Verner Panton and it is produced by the Danish company Verpan today. The Spiral lamps are considered to be further developments of the Fun lamp series, which has already been presented by Panton five years earlier (1964). Panton used metal hoops for the Spiral lamp, as well as he did for the Fun lamp, fixing dynamic elements at them using smaller metal hoops. Contrasting the Fun lamp, there are no nacre or aluminium sheets used at the Spiral lamp, but spiral-like elements out of plastic. These name-giving spirals offer a spherical appearance to the lamp, since they are suspended on different levels. The Spiral lamp is available as single lamp with a metal frame or in cluster formations with one to three “lamp bundles” one under another, as well as the Fun lamp.
The sculptural lamp is available with differently coloured plastic spirals that offer a different character to the lamp each one of them – from luxurious (gold) over elegant (silicone) up to Pop-Art-Design (multicolour), the Spiral Lamp can therefore be integrated in different furnishing styles that way.
The Spiral lamp plays with all our senses as a masterpiece of Panton. The spirals get to move by a slight air beam and the lamp seams to become alive consequently. The light (illuminant E27 max. 75 W) meets the spirals from the inside of the illuminant, and the spirals spread the light in the room in soft rotating movements like wonderful reflections.
“Light and colour are tightly connected. (Light-)colours can encourage deciding differences, for example if changing from daylight into artificial light or from powerful into soft illumination. Moreover the colour consciousness of the material’s structure is influenced. Also if a piece of textile has the same colour as a glossy enamel-sheet, both of them act completely different.”, says Verner Panton about the interplay of light, colour and material in design.
The Spiral lamps by Verpan are delivered including a chromed baldachin and a black textile cable (400 cm). The spiral elements consist of silver or gold or multicolour cellidor plastics (out of cellulose). The suspension hardware is delivered out of metal.
Besides the SP01, the Spiral lamp is also available in the bigger cluster formations SP1, SP2 and SP3 as well as in a smapper edition as Spiral Mini.
Each Verpan product is delivered with an authenticity certificate. This one grants the originality of the product, which is still manufactured according to the strict quality demands of Verner Panton at Verpan.
