Verner Panton’s VP Globe spreads futurism as no other lamp does. Designed in 1969, the year of the fisrt landing on the moon, the design of the lamp displays the worldwide believe in technology and future. In the middle of this spirit of optimism and inspired by the thoughts of a new era, Verner Panton designed the VP Globe.
Controllability, transparency and colour were the main characteristics of the VP Globe. The sphere out of acrylic acts like an air bubble where light comes out of, which optimally adapts to working and room demands. This adaptation is possible by a total of five aluminium reflectors, with a colourful surface (white, blue and red orange) and suspended at three steel chains in order to emphasize the central illuminant (E14 max. 60W).
The VP Globe however, doesn’t only spread soft, pleasant and balanced room light, but it also presents the unique love of Verner Panton for technical aspects, material and the interplay of possibilities.
“The colour planning is deciding when it comes to design surroundings. It is not enough to say that red is read and blue just blue. I generally work parallel with colours of the whole spectrum and I keep in mind how they follow each other inside of the spectrum. This is how I am able to control the warm or cold character of a room and create the mood I want”, explained Verner Panton about the interplay of colours in design.
The interplay with the colour temperatures and light colours isn’t rare any more today, but VP Globe still displays the mechanic and visual connections of light, colour and mood on a melancholic way. Moreover the lamps classic enriches every surrounding catching all eyes with its clear acrylic glass shade and the technical and cool acting aluminium reflectors.
The VP Globe was initially designed for the Louis Poulsen company. Verpan manufactures the exceptional lamp today, which is delivered including a black textile cable and a ceiling baldachin. It is available in two different sizes (Ø 40cm und Ø 50 cm). Moreover a different VP Globe variant is available, that one is equipped with semi-transparent opal glass diffusors instead of the aluminium reflectors.
Each Verpan product is delivered with an authenticity certificate. This one grants the originality of the product, which is still manufactured according to the strict quality demands of Verner Panton at Verpan.
