The BL2 by Bestlite is the more compact one of the two table lamps by the designer Robert Dudley Best. Unlike the table lamp BL1 by Bestlite the BL2 cannot be adjusted in height but it’s not less handy. Instead, the lamp seems more simple, round and self-contained than the BL1 and furthermore it provides the highest functionality.
At the time when the table lamp BL2 was designed by Robert Dudley Best as part of the BL series it was revolutionary simple, clearly and functionally designed.
The visual similarities of the BL lamps are nonetheless enough to regard them as examples of classic Bauhaus design. This is being enforced by the close contacts that the British designer had to Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, the centres of the Bauhaus movement back then.
Especially as a working place light the BL2 satisfies as it’s rotatable and traversable and therefore able to light every corner optimally. The lamp shade can be brought in any position. A heavy floor plate ensures a secure and firm stand.
The BL2 table light has been designed in the 1930s. It gained some popularity as the British premier Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp standing on his desk in Whitehall. Many architects and designers worked on some great designs under its light.
The BL2 table light by Guby is also available in further colours.
