The Block Lamp is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) since 2000. It was designed by Harri Koskinen in 1996 and it is prepared for the future since Design House Stockholm equipped the lamp with LED technology.
The lamp was watered with numerous design awards since it was first presented by Design House Stockholm. Some of the awards are the Excellent Swedish Design (1998), the Design Plus Award (1999) or the Best New Product on the Accent Show in New York (1999).
The Block Lamp LED is made of – hand cast – clear glass, which is finished in a complex cool-down process, which is the reason for the illusionary appeal of an ice block. Both glass halves enclose the illuminant (E 14) of the Design House Stockholm Block Lamp LED and ensure moody illumination on the table or the floor of the corridor or the living room.
