The KAISER Idell Lamp 6631 Luxus, which was designed by German silversmith Christian Dell at the beginning of the 1930s, essentially embodies the style of the Bauhaus-movement of that time.
The Lamp 6631 Luxus even became world-famous. Since the 1960s, different versions of the lamp have appeared again and again on-screen. They were particularly present on the desks of famous TV commissioners and investigators. For this reason the table model 6631 is also affectionately called the “commissioner lamp”.
The lamp is characterised by its formal closed nature and at the same time, impresses with only a few basic components. The shape is determined by the smooth, asymmetrical reflector shade which has a diameter of 290mm. It consists of high-quality sheet steel and its outer side is wet-painted by hand in its former original high-gloss colours black, ivory or black-green. The ingenious shape of the reflector combined with the optimal lamp position and white interior coating allows for sophisticated light control.
The bulb socket, which is embossed with “ORIGINAL KAISERidell”, is connected on top of the reflector. The joints, whose function is really well though out, and which are very independent yet simply designed, allow for maximum flexibility and variability during use.
The upper ball joint which connects the reflector to the lamp arm was then only available in the Kaiser lamps from the idell series. This is therefore another significant distinguishing feature of its absolute originality. The lower hinge that fixes the lamp arm has a well-designed screw-on cross clamp, which although robust, seems delicate. The harmoniously shaped arm of the lamp visually adopts the silhouette of the reflector shade. It consists of pure brass and is silver-soldered to its connecting joint in a skilfully artistic way and polished by hand. Finally, it itself, just like all joints and fittings, is high-quality chrome-plated.
The round lamp base located at the socket of the lamp arm is decorated with a polished and high quality chromed decorative ring which also consists of brass. Equipped with a cast plate on the inside, the base not only provides excellent stability but also rounds off the overall haptic impression.
The total weight of the lamp is approximately 4kg. This is also why there is a thick felt layer located underneath the base plate to protect a possibly sensitive stand space. The 6631 R Luxus is connected to the power supply via a black, cloth-covered cable, as was compulsory in the past.
The lamp was adjusted to conform with current technical guidelines including all marks of approval. Regarding the design, quality and technical production process, the lamp is completely identical to the original. This “piece of German lighting culture” is reedited and produced in Denmark by “KAISERidell A/S" which is based in Vejle.
