Alvar and his wife Aino Aalto were commissioned in 1936 to design the interior of the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki. The elegant Golden Bell pendant lamp, the "gold bell", became part of this facility. It was also shown in the Finnish pavilion at the World Exposition in Paris in 1937.
The light of the Golden Bell is limited at the bottom by the narrow shade. Nevertheless, light can escape through the subtle holes, which are arranged annularly around the edge of the lamp. The light that is visible here forms a radiant corona, a light ring that creates a special atmosphere.
The lamp was initially made from a single piece of brass. In addition to the brass model, today there are also versions available in white lacquered steel or chrome. The pendant lamp A330S is delivered complete with a ceiling power plug and a 2.5m-long white plastic cable. As a light source, the manufacturer Artek recommends using a 40 W light bulb with an E27 socket or an energy-saving lamp with 7W.
