Hopper is a table for in and outdoors by the Belgian company Extremis. The design connects a table and two benches, and is deeply anchored in Belgian culture: people can sit together at Hopper and eat, drink and celebrate. The table is inspired by the Belgian beer culture that strongly permeates the Westhoek region (the region in which Dirk Wynants, the designer, lives and where Extremis is based).
Hopper is the x-th interpretation of the Extremis philosophy: bringing people together with outdoor furniture that combines functionality and innovation. Hopper builds on the easy recognition of long beer tables, but also offers more comfort. Thanks to the four ‘entry places’ on the sides you no longer have to climb over benches or tablemates. The sloping table edge, aligned with the table’s legs, is more than a reference to the hanging hops that are typical of the region. When you turn around, you can use the table as the perfect backrest…
The first prototype of Hopper is now nearly ten years old. Just simplifying the initial idea took a lot of time. Today Extremis offers the Hopper table in four different sizes, suitable for four, six, eight or ten people respectively.
Extremis uses Iroko hardwood with FSC certification and galvanised steel for the frame and table’s legs, which are also available in coated aluminium (white, red and earth-coloured).
