He was a true all-rounder, even though he became best known for his furniture. As he often emphasised during his lifetime, he was self-taught as a furniture designer. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation at Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Finn Juhl played a key role in the international triumph of Danish furniture design in the 1940s and 1950s. By breaking with established traditions and introducing new creations, he showed the way for a whole generation of designers. His love of teak led him to keep developing new and better techniques for working with it. Juhl is therefore regarded as the father of teak's popularity in Danish furniture design today. Many of his works are now considered Scandinavian design classics.

In 1951, Finn Juhl designed the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York in the USA, a gift from Denmark to the United Nations. This further enhanced his considerable international reputation. Today, Juhl has long been a Danish legend.

"One cannot create happiness with beautiful objects, but one can spoil quite a lot of happiness with bad ones."

A Geometric Lighting Object with a History

The " FJ Elements " pendant lamp was designed by Finn Juhl in 1963 and embodies his characteristic fusion of architecture and organic design. The design is complemented by a removable diffuser that creates a soft, glare-free light.
Originally produced for only seven years, the lamp was reissued in 2013 as part of an exhibition and is now being re-released in 2025—each with a matte finish and fabric cord.
