Gifts shopping online: How to save on your Christmas purchases

News of 2015-11-05, from Anja Beckmann

Those who would like to escape the Christmas hustle and bustle, buy gifts online. One two people aged more than 14 years does it, 33 million people, according to Bitkom research. Most expect a timesaver, but also lower prices when they shop online. But we must bear in mind a few things for it. Consumers score on their Christmas purchases with the following eight tips.

"Those who would like to purchase cheaply, should not only rely on comparing prices. Online stores are clever just for Christmas, in order to make customers purchase at their shop, instead of choosing one of the many competitors”, explained Isabell Kleina, Marketing Manager at Connox, one of the leading online shops for designer furniture and home accessories.

1. Make use of offers

The Black Friday on the 27th of November, Nicholas on December, 6st, advent Sundays - at Christmas time there are numerous promotions and holidays, where online shops attract with percent promotions and special offers. Complete ranges are often full of special offers. If you keep your eyes and ears open these days, you will benefit from the huge discounts.

2. Choose the right payment method

Even if the purchases grow before Christmas, buyers should choose the payment type wisely. Many stores offer discounts for payment in advance - usually three percent of the whole sum. And these are noticeable when purchasing a large gift.

3. As a Club member, you will take advantage of exclusive benefits

Online stores are keen to win customers. They come up with a lot for this - for the benefit of the consumer. Bonus programs, loyalty discounts, exclusive benefits... Customers will still feel the Christmas presents in the next shopping when the shops offer bonus points. It is worthy informing about a membership in possible loyalty clubs before the big Christmas shopping.

4. Offer newsletters keep you informed

November and December are the months you should remain informed about special offers, since there are plenty of them contrasting the rest of the year. Almost all shops offer special offer newsletters that inform about current promotions and latest bargains. As a Subscriber, customers make sure that the reduced products are not sold out, before they find out about this. But beware, not everywhere ther is an "Offer", there really is one. A price comparison offers security.

5. Search for coupons and discount codes

Consumers of the internet should look for coupons and discount codes before each purchase. Many shops offer percent coupons, free products, or free shipping. The code will be entered in the checkout process, thus automatically reducing the amount. Consumers should check whether the voucher is redeemable for their particular case beforehand. Some are limited to a specific range, new customers or a fixed period of time.

6. Use the best price guarantee

Many online stores offer a best price guarantee. This means that they guarantee items offered at the best price. Before buying, it is worth to compare the price of the product in the different shops. The buyer sees a product in another shop for less and he will receive it on request at that price as well. This is how customers will be able to buy in their favourite shop, and still benefit from the best price.

7. Browse the online deals

Warehouse deals, returns, closeouts - online stores have a wide variety of names for them. In this category, they will sell articles with small damages, and those who have found no buyer for a longer period, at reduced prices. Consumers have a good chance to discover small treasures especially with high-priced products. "The customer pays a high amount for a chair, so this one should be flawless. Such products are often returned with smallest failures - for a reason”, explained Isabell Kleina.

8. Try your luck with sweepstakes and raffles

As many raffles as in the time of Advent don’t take place during the rest of the year. Many online stores offer an advent calendar competition in December. Every day they are giving away another product - often only against the answer to a short question. The chance to win increases with the participation of several raffles. Those who are lucky, get the one or the other Christmas gift for free. Connox also has an advent calendar. "The 24 windows contain prizes valued at more than 15,000 euros every year - including some of the most popular furniture and accessories from our design shop. A participation is worthwhile", Isabell Kleina noticed.
