How Connox Makes Shopping a Win-Win Experience

In September 2011, interior design website Connox was one of the first online shops to develop a system to reward customers for their orders: ConnoxPlus. Today, the advantages programme is five years old. The company has strongly developed its programme in this time. One thing has stayed the same, however: unlike online bonus schemes like Amazon Prime or Zalando First, ConnoxPlus is completely free – and it will stay free.

The principle of a loyalty programme, which was made popular in the 90s for high street stores and with Airmiles, was still a rarity within eCommerce in 2011. Not many shop systems had the technical capabilities at that time to immediately reward purchases. Using the eCommerce platform that they developed in-house made it possible for Connox to integrate just such a points system. Registered customers were given "ConnoxPoints" for every euro spent, and could use these to save on their next purchase. And so ConnoxPlus was born.

More Advantages, More Members

Connox has been constantly learning and improving the online shop's loyalty programme over the last five years – supported by feedback from its members. Today, ConnoxPlus offers many more advantages on top of ConnoxPoints. Members have access to exclusive offers in flash sales and are kept up-to-date with regular emails, so that they are the first to know about special offers and new designs as well as receiving inspirational ideas on the topic of home design and décor. Every month, members can enter a competition to win a selected high-end designer product.

"A great range of products, fast delivery and a simply returns process are ecommerce standards nowadays", explains Kristian Lenz, Connox CEO. "You need more than that to stand out to your customers. ConnoxPlus is a way for us to make shopping into an experience". Their work on the advantages programme is paying off: membership numbers have doubled in the last year alone.

Opening Doors instead of Excluding Customers

For Kristian Lenz it's obvious that ConnoxPlus should be free. A membership fee has never even been discussed in the last five years: "We don't want to create entry barriers. Everybody should have the opportunity to have membership, regardless of how often they shop or how much they spend. Aside from that, the home inspiration and special offers are a good opportunity for us to give something back to our loyal customers. It's a sort of recognition", explains the managing director. And their most loyal customers are given even more rewards: they are promoted to the next level of the ConnoxPlus advantages programme.
