Silke Decker was born in Henstedt-Ulzburg in 1982. She studied product design at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg and founded her own studio after graduating in 2008. Here, she creates designs for various companies and among other things continuously develops her artistic cordporcelain line.
In her work, Decker mainly experiments with various materials such as foam, paper, weaving, wool yarns and textiles, which she stylishly combines with casting porcelain.
This way, the Hamburg-based designer creates new structures from a wide variety of materials that are relevant to the construction and the shape of various vessels. Decker is mainly known for the technique of the cordporcelain, for which she immerses wool fibres in casting porcelain to design them to braids. But also classic design objects made of glass, wood, fabric or ceramic are in the repertoire of the artist and set accents in any surrounding.
