Tomoyuki Matsuoka

Tomoyuki Matsuoka

Tomoyuki Matsuoka was born in 1970 in Mie / Japan. He studied at the Japanese University Chiba product design from 1988 until 1992 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen from 1999 until 2001.

During Matsuoka is in his creative phase, he aims at designing furniture which goes with the rhythm of nature: simple, beautiful, functional, and comfortable. However, Matsuoka strives towards a modern design -in time but firstly, his conceptions should be timeless and not belong to any trend. Matsuoka thinks more about the people using and living with his furniture than about the furniture itself.

“For me, the design of furniture is equal to the design of a certain lifestyle of people.“

The design of the Island Series which Matsuoka created for Blå Station, reflects the different cultural influences. The smooth flowing, round forms and lighting colours of the benches and tables stand for his desire to harmonize natural, functional and timeless design.
