Light Philosophy & Sustainability

„Light to live“ is a suitable description of the Domus lamps collection and an important part of the company’s philosophy since the foundation in the year 1966. Lamps are more than only functional elements in the contemporaneous living world – a lamp is also furniture, a piece of light furniture. The material wood offers all the advantages that a homely atmosphere demands for this. Wood is unique in its versatility. And just that beauty of the massive wood is expressed in the designs of the Domus lamps as individual specialty.

Beside the natural beauty of massive wood, the ecological aspect is added to the products out of the Domus house: Domus only uses regrowing raw material wherever it is possible. Wood, worked out handicraft in many appearances, is the classic material. Domus refuses to use lacquers in benefit of plant oils and natural waxes. That is how the open-pored beauty of the wood is saved.

Only wood out of controlled cultivation is used in the Domus manufacture. These are especially the homely woofs of the north hemisphere, but also other cultivation areas. Domus wants to prove, that also a technical product can be produced sustainably – if one is prepared to think a little.

Domus – eine Lichtphilosophie

Domus is consciously based in Germany with its high demands for sustainability. Also the products inside of Germany mean shorter transport ways and thereby a lower environment pollution.

Light wakes life. In the interior architecture it is an independent element, one also speaks about the four dimensions of a room. Domus thereby stands for much more than the simple illumination of a room. So that Domus lamps have a special quality – the light is pleasant and careful for the eyes. They unify function and human dimensions.

Domus constantly is a competent partner with experience and high technical know-how, not only when it comes to shape private living rooms, but also at the professional illumination of objects. Numerous projects in private and public areas mirror the trust that national and international light-planners and architects put in Domus. One focus in the object illumination is composed by retirement homes, kindergarten as well as hotels – there where homely light with technical know-how is demanded.
