Emeco: Design with the Highest Standards

The American company Emeco (Electric Machine and Equipment Co.) was founded in 1944 by Witton C. Dinges in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Emeco’s aim was from the start to combine the best materials and have them processed by the most competent craftsmen. Emeco’s philosophy is that quality is not a coincidence but the result of a long process and the people taking part in it.

Emeco products are handmade. Machines are used, but the biggest part of the production is done with tools and by hand. That is why 50 hands and four hours work are needed for a single chair. Another eight hours are added to this when the chair is polished. This makes every chair a unique article.

Emeco chairs consist of 80% recycled aluminum, which is good for the environment. However skilled manual processing isn’t easy: 77 work steps are needed to produce one of Emeco’s chairs. However the results are high-quality chairs - among them the worldwide known Navy chair & Emeco's Navy counter stool - that win you over in terms of quality as well as design. The special aluminum is rust-free, surprisingly light and extremely durable: That's why Emeco’s chairs have a life span of 150 years.

The special mid-19th century production process by Emeco which is still in use nowadays, was the result of a collaboration with ALCOA (Aluminum Company of America). In cooperation with Emeco, ALCOA's scientists and engineers developed a chair for - originally - military purposes, the 1006 Navy chair. The chairs are still being manufactured today. The patented production process is solely applied worldwide by Emeco.
