Two families can be supplied with local, not manipulated seeds for 38 euros.
In countries and in the Liberian capital Monrovia there is enough cropland to plant fruits and vegetables.
The project of the Welthungerhilfe is therefore as easy as effective: urban agriculture against hunger.
Families plant fruits and vegetables on fallow land inside and surrounding Monrovia. The farmers cultivate their lands on ancient fallow ground equipped with locally adapted, not genetically modified seeds, gardening tools like spades, picks, watering cans and buckets. This makes it possible for them to cater for themselves with healthy food as well as to sell harvest surpluses.
”On the agricultural demonstration land of the Welthungerhilfe I learn how to compost rightly. Organic material that didn’t rot yet must be on the ground, it mustn’t really be treated afterwards. I also learn how to improve cultivation methods and I get seeds and agricultural tools. All of this helps a lot”, explained Victoria Serleaf in Liberia.
- Two million people suffer from malnutrition.
- We thereby encourage an all-including approach: All the people are provided with healthy and enough nutrition.
- Nutrition that accord to the daily demand of children and adults should be available in the needed amounts and good quality.
