The famous Ant Chair by Fritz Hansen is going to be 60 years old these days. The previously revolutionary chair was hardly sold at its start in 1952, but became more and more desired along the years and is one of the most sold chairs of the world today.
The chair, which has originally been designed for the canteen of Novo Nordisk, an international pharmaceutical company with Danish roots, emerged out of the cooperation of the designer Arne Jacobsen with the manufacturer Fritz Hansen Eft. A/S.
Despite its minimalistic form and graceful frame, the Ant by Arne Jacobsen is an extremely comfortable chair. The procedure of layer-gluing, which then still was in the developing phase, ensures enough elasticity together with the typical wood-qualities, so as to adapt to the contours and movements of the human body.
