The magazine A&W Architektur & Wohnen (architecture & living) selected Patricia Urquiola as the „A&W-Designer of the year 2012“.

This year, the award is praised with a special exposition in the ancient pawn shop for the 16th time. The special exposition was a continuous sensation since 1997, just like the theatre production from Gaetano Pesce in the Christ Church 2006 or the show of the Japan designer Tokujin Yoshioka 2011 in the Cologne arts association which turned out to be a real public magnet.

It all begun with the “master” of Italian design Achille Castiglioni. Further famous 15 names of international design scene followed him: Ingo Maurer, Philippe Starck, Paola Navone, Ross Lovegrove, Antonio Citerio, Ulf Moritz, Ron Arad, Richard Sapper, Gaetano Pesce, Konstantin Grcic, Tom Dixon, Alfredo Häberli, Front, Tokujin Yoshioka and Patricia Urquiola.

Each “A&W-Designer of the year” names one design talent that is going to get the “Audi-Mentor Award by A&W”. This year’s selected one was the British young designer Benjamin Hubert. The importance of the mentors’ award is proven by illustrate names of awarded before, such as Konstantin Grcic (1997), Tokujin Yoshioka (2001), Stefan Diez (2005) or Doshi Levien (2008).
