With her Label „The Hansen Family“, Gesa Hansen is one of the most popular German designers now. The renowned magazine Architectural Digest (AD) (German magazine) published a multiple-page article about the designer and her family in the current edition. Since furniture design runs through the 30 years old designer’s veins: already her great grandfather was an architect, her father possesses the furniture brand Hans Hansen.
Gesa Hansen was born in 1981 in Arnsberg. She studied at the University in Weimar, worked in the Paris atelier of Jean Nouvel and afterwards in the design studio NDC in Tokyo. Soon after that she moved to Paris, where she works as furniture designer today. Four years before, Gesa Hansen founded her own Label „The Hansen Family“ which designs wooden seating furniture with a strong, handicraft character.
Gesa Hansen’s design style is a combination of Scandinavian minimalism and strong colours. She was already awarded twice with the red dot design award and once with the Good Design award, and currently she is nominated with the design award of the BRD (Federal Republic Germany).
All products of the Hansen Family collection are manufactured by hand in the workshop of the company of the father Hans Hansen. Gesa Hansen spends two weeks each month in the homely Arnsberg because of the production, where Hans Hansen lives. And Gesa is also included there: Her father and Gesa share the art direction.
The furniture manufacturer Hans Hansen designs modern and multifunctional furniture in the best Bauhaus tradition. The family company does mainly produce in Germany. After his business management studies and several years of working experience with production partners of the H+H in Lithuania, the eldest son of Hans Hansen, Björn Hansen took the business management together with his Lithuanian wife Virginija Hansen, also business management graduated.
