With the exposition „Art and Design for all“, the Victoria & Albert Museum is presented in the Arts and Expositions Hall of the Federal Republic Germany in Bonn from the 18th of November 2011 until the 15th of April 2012.

The Victoria & Albert Museum is the worldwide leading Museum for Arts and Design. “Art and Design for all” tells the origin history and illustrates the influence of this fascinating museum which is a never-ending source of inspiration, innovation and knowledge since its foundation on 1857.

For this unique exposition in Germany which continues the traditional series “Great Collections” in the Federal Arts Hall, the Victoria & Albert Museum loans more than 400 spectacular objects for the first time in its history: Masterpieces of beautiful and applied arts – furniture, ceramic, porcelain, textiles, sculptures and jewelry – as well as treasures out of India, China, Japan and the Middle East. The exposition is completed by more selected loaned objects of the Royal Collection, the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum for Applied Arts in Budapest.

The exposition “Art and Design for all: The Victoria and Albert Museum” is opened from the 18th of November until the 15th of April. Find further information about the exposition as well as the opening times on the homepage of the Arts and Exposition Hall of the Federal Republic Germany (German site).

Details of the exposition:

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is the worldwide leading Museum of Arts and Design. With fifteen national collections under one roof – from fashion and photography to after-classic sculpture and architecture – the commonly known as V&A Museum is not only directed to artists and designers, but also to all design enthusiasts. Art and Design for all: The Victoria and Albert Museum is the greatest ever V&A dedicated exposition and it presents the house as a vivid modern museum which exposes the contemporaneous visual art as well as excellent design.

As a common project of the V&A and the Arts and Exposition Hall of the Federal Republic Germany, Art and Design for all continues the successful series of “Great Collections” that presents exceptional musums of the world in Bonn. The Federal Arts Hall for example presented masterpieces of the collections of the Eremitage (St. Petersburg), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Prado (Madrid), the Vatican Museum (Rome), the Petit Palais (Paris) and the Guggenheim Museum (New York/Bilbao/Venedig) in the frame of this series since the opening in 1992. Art and Design for all is the first cooperation with a British museum.

The exposition investigates the emerging and the influence of the V&A as a completely new museum type, which has the aim of improving quality of design for the everyday, whether in fashion that we wear or furniture of rooms we live and work in. There is the meaning of the V&A, unbroken until today.

The exponates of arts and arts crafts of the 19th century reach from furniture, ceramic and photography until wall-carpets, sculptures and jewelry and include treasures of India, China, Japan and the Middle East. For the first time in its history, the Victoria and Albert Museum loaned more than 400 exceptional pieces. To tell the origin history of the V&A, more loaners offered extraordinary objects for the exposition: among them the Royal Collection, the Science Museum (which originated out of the same predecessor institution like V&A), the Museum of London, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin and the Museum for Applied Arts in Budapest.
