We congratulate the designer Rolf Heide (*23rd January 1932 in Kiel) for his birthday – the creator of the pile bed celebrates his 80th birthday.
The trained joiner and interior architect Heide is considered a creative multitalented: Besides his works in the areas furniture design and interior architecture, Heide also designs exposition concepts, already created carpets and developed unique interiors together with magazine-editorials. With his expertise and his versatile experience on his back, he also works as advisor of namely manufacturers such as Bulthaup or Vorwerk.
The fact that Rolf Heide counts to the most prestigious furniture designers of Europe is also proven by his award, the “Karl-Schneider Award for applied arts”, which he received in 1999. In the following year, the architecture and design editorial published the monograph “Rolf Heide. Designer, architect, queer-thinker.”
Along the past years, Heide started to work less. His timeless designs however, advanced to real classics and are still desired. Especially his pile bed, which Heide already designed in 1967, stands representatively for works of the designer and is still manufactured by Müller Möbelwerkstätten.
