60 Jahre German Design Council

It is an institution of German design: The German Design Council. It deciding collaborated in encouraging the integration of the value and the meaning of design into the economic world during its history.

The German Design Council celebrates its 60th birthday in 2013. Its foundation followed the decision of the first German Bundestag, which is responsible for the competitiveness of German industry and the best possible quality of German creations – encouraging the foundation of such a gremial.

The foundation of the council by means of the BDI and a leading German company followed in Spring of 1953. There are more than 180 design oriented German companies organising the Design Council today, employing more than 1.8 million of employees.

The German Design Council reminds us of design culture and its parliamentary roots according to the motto 60 years of design culture with a debate in the Frankfurt Paul’s Church the 13th of July of 2013. Speakers of different areas explain the meaning and the perspectives of the disciplines politic, economy and society in design. After the celebration there will be an international congress in Frankfurt am Main the following day: Design. Innovation. Europe, concentrating on European design politics for the first time according to the event.

Moreover the German Design Council is the organiser of different design awards. Renowned prizes are given according to the motto “Improve one’s image with prizes” every year. Some of them are the German Design Award, the Design Plus or the interior innovation Award.
