xO Design News 2011

The French manufacturer xO Design has creations of the star designers Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders in its new collection. The Dutchman Marcel Wanders developed a furniture collection with the meaningful name “Babel”, by the designer Starck comes a new Mi Ming Chair and the Table Series Tronc.

Babel combines different elements of modern design to an extravagant, graceful and humorous design, as people are used to by Marcel Wanders. Babel possesses modern plastic legs that visually remind of the classic, artful turning wooden legs. The plastic frame of the chair has a seat area that really consists of wood and where a transparent plastic backrest lies. The otherwise classic approaching look from Babel receives a modern lightness through the transparent backrest.

The Babel design ornaments a total of a chair, the Double Babel sofa, a coffee table and a dining table. The heart of the Babel series however, is the Super Babel, a table with “integrated” chairs. As small artwork Super Babel is only available as limited, numbered and by Marcel Wanders hand-signed version. Especially the Double Babel appears unusual, a sort of bench with two single backrests that perfectly fulfil the Babel dining table.

Of course Philippe Starck is a must for the xO Design novelties, this one founded the company in the year 1984 together with Gérard Mialet. Starck is responsible for a white edition of his Mi Ming armchair in this year, adding a table series with Tronc. Tronc includes square and oval tables in different sizes and made out of different materials.
