Traditionally, with the end of summer, the time of international Autumn Fairs begins where numerous manufacturers present their brand-new products for the upcoming season. Look forward to the design trends of the autumn and winter season 2015 / 2016. Get a first inside here!
Whether at the exhibition Nordstil in Hamburg (25.-27.07.), the northmodern in Copenhagen (13.08.-15.08.), the Tendence in Frankfurt (29.08.-01.09.), the spoga gafa in Cologne (30.08. - 01.09.), the Maison&Objet in Paris (04.09.-08.09) or the IFA in Berlin (04.09.-09.09.) – the promising innovations of the upcoming autumn and winter season 2015 as well as spring season 2016 set new benchmarks and shape the trade in the following months.
Regarding colour schemes, muted colours are in the focus now– how could it be different in autumn. Dark earth tones, for example granite green or fir green, are just as trendy as the colours petrol or Bordeaux. Clear, linear and rather demure shapes are emphasized by discreet patterns and ornaments.
The luxury trend keeps on continuing. Whereas during the last months, primarily products made of copper brought some extravagance into the domestic area, the trend changed: now lamps, furniture and particularly accessories made of brass or gold embody the luxurious furnishing style.
Parallel to the social trend topic “healthy nutrition“, corresponding home and kitchen appliances are launched. The Artisan series by Kitchen Aid has an addition to the family with the Magnetic Drive Blender for Mixing green Smoothies and a multi-functional cook processor for saving time during cooking, roasting, mashing, stewing, steaming or kneading.
Generally, the topic health and wellness is high on the agenda of most of the people. The trend shows that sustainable and ecological materials are increasingly appreciated – more than they were just a few years ago. Gaining centre stage during the dark autumn and winter months, the illumination should also be adaptable to the individual needs and moods because it is no longer just seen as “merely a source of light”. Therefore and starting at the end of October, Luceplan offers the Costanza Floor Lamp with the Philips Hue starter kit. The Hue-System enables a flexible light control via app whereas the luminous and colour intensity of this classic luminaire can be adapted to one’s individual preference.
Ultimately, the increasing digitization of society also exerts its influence on the living space. Whereas one had to sacrifice a whole wall for storing book, CDs or DVDs in a shelf, nowadays e-book or Bluetooth receivers for streaming services become a more and more attractive alternative. With the Helsinki Loudspeaker Vifa has extended its squad due to high-quality audio devices. The Scandinavian, soft Bag-Look of the small loudspeaker conceals the modern technology behind the inconspicuous textile cover – optically and technically an extraordinary loudspeaker!
Everything gets digitalised –the exceeding storage space from the old days as well as the media itself. Consequently, there are small flexible Office solutions instead of formal, space –filling Home Office concepts back then. A supreme example for such a solution is the new Wall Bureau PS03 by Müller Möbelfabrikation. With a length of just 1 metre and a depth of 46 centimetre, the wall table offers a maximum of functionality while taking up only a minimum of space.

Numerous product inventions which were just recently presented at international design exhibitions are available in our home design shop now – including some highlights in particular. Many brands presented both individual products and new collections. Particularly our Scandinavian Manufacturers score points with innovative ideas and unique new products.
Stelton enlarges its Theo Collection which was awarded with the iF design award in 2015 with the product Coffee Maker – made of Scandinavian stoneware in rustic matte black as well as in a cast iron look and with bamboo elements which have a certain Asiatic touch.
The Old English Collection by Holmegaard has also an addition to the family: a mouth-blown, 60 cm tall floor vase in the same old English style. Due to functionality and aesthetics, the vase resembles an amphora– with large belly, skinny neck and wide edge. This year, the Danish traditional manufacturer celebrates its 190-jähriges anniversary and, therefore, has launched an Anniversary Spirits Bottle – to be precise 1825 decanters. The number stands for the year of establishment of the manufacturer Holmegaard. With its mouth-blown quality, the decanter symbolises allegorical the history and quality of Holmegaard – a very exceptional collector’s item in a unique shape and colour.
The Danish manufacturer Menu redefined itself– losing their image as an exclusively accessory and gift products manufacturer, now establishing their new image as holistic apartment decorator. Newest products of lighting and furniture:: the Turning Table. Available in white oak and black ash, the round side table offers an integrated depot for magazines, remote controls and co. Furthermore, new is also the following in the Menu assortment: the Franklin Chandelier, is a an artwork in retro style. The fascinating part is: the designer Søren Rose travelled the USA in order to subsequently newly compose his collected single parts of lamps.
With Cafu, Georg Jensen launches a complete new series– just as noble as expected from the traditional brand. Reduced shapes, soft contours and precious colours are typical tags for the series consisting of vases, bowls and candleholders. With this timelessly, noble design objects made of polished stainless steel, the Danish designer Sebastian Holmbäck and Ulrik Nordentoft enrich the traditional manufacturer Georg Jensen with contemporary design.
Iittala also lines up with new products among the the exhibition trends 2015 and 2016. Above all, we fell for thePlektra Stool with its design of Ineke Hans and for the Kaasa Votive. Plektra is versatile, practical and durable – stool or side table, in different colours and heights, stackable and with a hole in the seat for easy carrying. Kaasa is a tea light holder and the image of Ilkka Suppanen’s Kaasa Fireplace which was designed in 2011. Again, the designer works with lighting reflections and the classic Iittala colours.
Rosendahl enlarges the the wooden design family under the brand name Kay Bojesen with a Horse made of high-quality walnut. In the same manner as the whole animal family, the horse has simple contours and reduced shapes. In comparison to its wooden siblings, the dark and oiled wood gives the horse an exceptionally noble character. Moreover, the Grand Cru-Collection has an additional family member: the Grand Cru Butter Pat is from now on part of the dishes family with the characteristically striking grooves.
The manufacturer Eva Solo still focuses on the kitchen area and launches with the Cut 'N Slice an innovative as well as chic cutting wheel (see 1st image). The sharp, rotating cutting wheel has a smart plastic handle which is hold by magnets at the cutting wheel. This way, the blade cuts through pizza and herbs as if it was butter.
