Schindlersalmerón is the design company of the two designers and architects Christoph Schindler and Margarita Salmerón Espinosa, based in Zurich, Switzerland. The company, founded in 2002, has placed its focus on the individual furnishing of rooms. For example, the furniture at Google Switzerland are exclusively from Schindlersalmerón.
Based on the Danish design language of the 20th century, Schindler and Salmerón Espinosa call themselves “furniture architects”. On the one hand, the name emphasises that the construction is the focus of the design, and on the other hand, that Schindlersalmerón also develop furniture for specific buildings and architectural styles.
Many pieces by Schindlersalmerón are customisable by the customer, so that the Swiss company coined the term "mass customisation”.
With their academic training always in mind, both people behind Schindlersalmerón are also active in research and teaching.
Schindler and Salmerón Espinosa strive to integrate the possibilities and conditions of architecture into their courses. Craftsmanship plays as much a role as industrial mass production. The mutual influence of design, manufacturing and construction culture are the focus of the teaching of the two designers. Youth development is also practiced by the designers in another form: Schindlersalmerón took part in the organisation of workshops at various European universities, in which the participants look after the creation of a piece of work in intensive cooperation with a company, from the design, to the production planning and the realisation itself in the scale of 1:1.
