Schindlersalmerón is the design company of the two designers and architects Christoph Schindler and Margarita Salmerón Espinosa, based in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2002, the company now specializes in the individual furnishing of rooms, for example the furniture of Google Switzerland comes exclusively from Schindlersalmerón.
Based on the Danish design language of the 20th century, Schindler and Salmerón Espinosa call themselves “furniture architects”. On the one hand, the name emphasizes that the construction is the focus of the design, and on the other hand, that Schindlersalmerón also develop furniture for specific buildings and architectural styles.
Many pieces by Schindlersalmerón can be customized by the customer, which is why the Swiss company came up with the term "mass customization”.
With their academic training always in mind, the two people behind Schindlersalmerón are also active in research and teaching. Schindler and Salmerón Espinosa strive to integrate the possibilities and conditions of architecture into their courses. Craftsmanship plays just as much a role as industrial mass production. The reciprocal influence on design, production and building culture is a focus of the teaching of the two designers.
Schindlersalmerón have also participated in the organisation of workshops for various European universities, where the participants have learned, in close cooperation with a company, how to take care of a product from the design over to the realization plan to the realization itself.
