Driven by the desire to offer the public practical and formally perfect furniture for their daily living needs, Werner Max Moser, Siegfried Giedion and Rudolf Graber founded wohnbedarf in 1931. Some of their furniture pieces by renowned artists, architects and designers such as Max Bill, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Richard Raul Lohse, Willy Guhl or Gottfried Honegger have been considered absolute classics from the start.
Even today, wohnbedarf produces furniture that remains current - classics from the 30s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s and modern furniture from today that will become classic tomorrow. Arthur Rüegg, architect and professor for architecture, explains it perfectly: “wohnbedarf AG is more than a simple furniture shop: it is a Zurich institution since 1931 and a wide-reaching cultural belief in terms of home decor.”
