Fans of Nordic design rejoice: all the qualities that make Scandinavian design so special - natural materials, simple, functional shapes and friendly colours - are finally coming to Christmas. Find out how world-famous brands such as ferm Living and Stelton are harmonising their love of nature with festive features.
Soft tones meet straight lines in the new Christmas products, with a strong trend for gold and brass. The elegant accessories sprinkle festive atmosphere throughout your home for the whole Christmas season - and they do it with beautifully subtlety.
Our Scandinavian brands lead the way: Stelton presents its first Christmas collections: The Tangle and Nordic Series comprises elegant tree decorations and festive accessories made from brushed brass. ferm Living shines with minimalist shapes and graphic patterns- in brass or completely natural in wood. With the Winterland Trees, the Danish brand once again proves that regal accessories perfectly complement wooden designs. The contrasting materials create excitement while the harmony of the colour tones takes care of an aesthetic union.
Kähler design focusses on white and soft bright tones. The brand has launched a range of festive accessories in its Christmas collection, which brings to mind the deep forests of Scandinavia and the colourful nuances of winter. In terms of a connection with nature, Jan Kurtz is not letting the Danes take all the glory: known for modern and natural designs in wood, the German brand delights this year with products in solid teak. Wood grain, marks and other features of the wooden material underline the natural charm of the figures and make every elk and every tree unique.
The festive new products say yes to stars, pine trees, angels and all the Christmas symbols that lie so close to our hearts at this time of year. They also prove that Christmas decorations do not have to be at all gaudy; simply an elegant and joyful celebration of Christmas!
A wonderful example is the painstakingly hand-finished Star Light from Le Klint. Gently swathed in white and bathed in warm light, this festive accessory spreads goodwill to all without dominating the room.
The traditional brand Alessi has always stood for recognisable and colourful pieces. Every year, the brand captures hearts with playful Christmas decorations and this year is no different. 2016 brings lovingly decorated porcellain bells, which present the figures of the nativity scene. These were designed by Marcel Wanders, who is known for his unusual designs. The countless details mean that the baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, star and angel are absolutely wonderful Christmas decorations - and collector's items.
Under the brand A di Alessi, the manufacturer is also presenting the Presepe Nativity Set by designer Massimo Giacon. The little figures are hand decorated and reminiscent of advertising characters from the 70s.
While we're on the subject of playful: this year you'll also have the opportunity to dress your wooden figures from Kay Bojesen in Christmas get-up. The wooden monkey and his animal friends are being given Christmas hats for the season. Available at Connox from the end of November.
