Squaring of the Circle began as a collaboration between Cristian Zuzunaga and Danish design house Kvadrat, and is now one of Zuzunaga’s most recognisable collections. The series originally consisted of three pixel print designs, named Spirit, Soul and Fire, which have now been expanded to include three new variations – Mercury, Venus and Luna.
The cushions, which are made from Trevira CS and can be washed at 40C, also stand out for their attention to detail. For instance, colours run smoothly over the cushions’ seams, ensuring the rhythm of the pattern is not disturbed. Squaring of the Circle cushions come in individual, vibrant and unique combinations of colours, ranging from bright and energetic greens and yellows to soft and gentle purples and pinks, also taking in shades of black and white.
The collection takes its name from the expression ‘Squaring the circle’, which mean to do something seemingly impossible – like mass-produce one-off products. Yet with a ±5m repeat pattern on the cushions’ pixel print, and random cut and stitch of the cushion faces, each cushion is unique.
The trademark Zuzunaga pixel print is a direct extension of the company’s fascination with architecture, digital technology and how these designs become part of our home lives. The colourful character of the collection reflects Zuzunaga’s mission to provoke positive emotions and sensations by introducing colour to daily life.
