Once upon a time portable TVs were very popular. Not many people could afford large screens as we own them today. But maybe that makes this portable, screaming thing so very special to us now. It combines the new technical possibilities with the old, nostalgic memories of portable TVs. The design by Richard Sapper and Marco Zanuso is kind of crazy, especially the bright orange colouring.
The somewhat visually challenging but somewhat cheeky downtilt animates this cute little machine and turns it into a funny friend.
In the times of silver black flatscreen TVs the Algol is a refreshing assett to any home. Technically, it is equal to its bigger brothers.
The extricable chromed handle makes this a portable TV. It is such an important piece of design that it is exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Arts.
