Mart Stam, the artistic originator of the cantilever chair, created a completely new seating option with his S 43 , which has been distributed by Thonet since the 1930s. The design consists of a free-swinging tubular steel frame complemented by shaped wood seat and back shells. The rectilinear form and economy in construction belong to a series of novel furniture designs of the 1930s, which can be summarized under the style "New Objectivity".
Frame and shells in absolute reduction surprise with a swinging effect, which makes the seat so comfortable that upholstery is not necessary. The design is dynamic, ergonomic and invites you to linger. Thus, the S 43 cantilever chair looks good at the dining table in the kitchen or living room, as well as a desk chair for working and studying.
The tubular steel frame is available chrome-plated or lacquered, while the molded wood trimmings are manufactured in stained beech, top-coated or with textured lacquer in various colors.
The cantilever chair is also available with matching armrests under the name S 43 F in various colors.
