Modern furniture design with floating lightness
The S 179 serving trolley from Thonet , designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, embodies the principle of modernity in its purest form: The design consistently follows the function. The filigree construction made of chrome-plated tubular steel is supported by a continuous curved central tube, which also forms the supporting structure. The trolley rests on three points - two wheels and the front knee of the frame - and can be easily lifted and moved using the black core leather handle with the Thonet logo.
Two shelves made of tinted clear glass provide ample space for glasses, bottles and bar accessories, but are also suitable for books or decorative objects. The glass surfaces are held in place by a frame made of chrome-plated flat steel, while a railing added by Thonet provides additional safety on the lower level. In the course of the new edition, the serving trolley was slightly enlarged to meet today's living and usage requirements - without losing the iconic character of the original.
