Folk Art Inspired Design: The Wooden Dolls by Alexander Girard

Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls had their origin in the designer Alexander Girard's personal possessions and were built after the original figures in his estate. The sometimes cheerful, sometimes rather grim-looking dolls of Vitra are a charming enrichment for any interior.

The Wooden Dolls wooden figures were originally designed by Alexander Girard for his home in Santa Fe and made by himself. The designer found inspiration for the small figures in his own extensive folk art collection.

Together with Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson Nelson, Alexander Girard is one of the defining figures of post-war American design. The focus of his multifaceted work was textile design, where the intensive study of the folk art of South America, Asia and Eastern Europe was a major source of inspiration.

The wooden dolls are made of solid fir wood and are handpainted. The delivery takes place in a printed wooden box, together with a booklet.

For your information: The wooden dolls with the numbers 13 - 16 are available.
