Danish architect
Bjarke Ingels is a Danish architect, born in Copenhagen in Denmark in 1974. After graduating in architecture in 1998 from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen and the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura in Barcelona in Spain, he worked for Rem Koolhaas at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam in the Netherlands until 2001.
That same year, Bjarke Ingels founded the architecture practice PLOT in Copenhagen with Belgian architect Julien de Smedt. Both enjoyed great success with their designs and are responsible for well-known buildings.
Despite their good collaboration, they went their separate ways and founded their own practices in 2006. Since then, Bjarke Ingels has led the Bjarke Ingels Group and continues to realise major projects. His designs include the Danish Maritime Museum in Helsingør in Denmark and the VIA 57 West residential building in Manhattan, New York, USA.
His designs speak a clear language. With pragmatic ideas and a playful approach, Ingels creates exceptional designs that stay in the memory.
