Jakob Wagner was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1963, where he also completed his first degree in design. After spending time at several international schools, he graduated in 1992 from the Art Center in Montreux, Switzerland, specialising in product design.
He then set up his own design studio in Copenhagen and spent the next five years working in sports design for clients such as Porsche and Pioneer. Over time, however, he became increasingly interested in objects for the home. Describing his design philosophy today, Jakob says: "I try to create a balanced tension between opposites in my designs. That's why I play with contrasts between static and dynamic, symmetry and asymmetry, masculinity and femininity, organic and geometric expression, and so on. This challenges our senses and brings an object to life – it touches us emotionally."
Jakob's work has been exhibited throughout Scandinavia and around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the USA, where his first product has been part of the permanent collection since 2006.
In 2003, he was awarded a three-year grant by the Danish Arts Foundation.
