Jørn Utzon was born in Copenhagen in Denmark on 9 April 1918 and died on 29 November 2008. The architect and designer is arguably one of the most famous Danish architects of all time. Utzon received his architecture diploma in 1942 from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he opened his own architecture practice in 1946.

He reached the high point of his career in 1957, when he won an architectural competition for the Sydney Opera House in Australia. His brilliant design deservedly made him one of the most important architects of the 20th century.

Creating something for people was Jørn Utzon's aim – and he was not only an architect but also a designer. When designing lights for Lightyears, he started from the insight that light makes a major contribution to the mood of a room, whether you are relaxing or working there. The shape of his first lamp, which in turn recalls the Opera House, once again shows his genius as an internationally recognised architect and designer.
