Finnish design duo Juslin Maunula
Juslin Maunula was founded in 2016 by fashion designer Laura Juslin and architect Lilli Maunula. Since then, their mix of fashion expertise and architectural vision has created a distinctive space that works both as a design studio and as the designers' own brand – bringing once-forgotten materials back to life.
What sets the Juslin Maunula brand apart is its focus on reusing discarded textiles and turning them into home products, wearable items and installations. Their creative process involves sourcing unsold surplus rolls from past decades to highlight the beauty of these overlooked materials.
Juslin Maunula's approach is defined by a smart use of materials and a strong love of experimentation. Every product is designed by Laura and Lilli in Helsinki in Finland, driven by their passion for colour and texture. Made in limited runs, the products are carefully sewn by experienced seamstresses in the EU.
Working with random batches of surplus textiles brings an element of chance into the process. The availability of each product depends on the size of the textile batch, and new items are released as drops once they have been designed.
As a design studio, Juslin Maunula has worked with renowned Finnish and international brands such as Marimekko, Artek and Kalevala Koru, gaining a great deal of attention and recognition. In 2022, Juslin Maunula was named Finland's Young Designer of the Year and included by Dezeen on its longlist of 20 emerging design studios. The studio also gained worldwide recognition in 2023, when D la Repubblica magazine named it one of the six best emerging design studios in the world.
