MSDS is an interdisciplinary design studio from Toronto in Canada, working in concept, object and product design. The duo doesn't bow to convention but always tries to create something new.
Jonathan Sabine and Jessica Nakanishi are the minds behind MSDS. Radical design theories, such as those established by several Italian lighting designers in the 1960s, are both inspiration and driving force for MSDS: their designs are not meant to blend into existing interiors, but to stand out.
In doing so, MSDS deliberately opposes the increasingly homogeneous design that globalisation and the internet have made so widespread. That's why Nakanishi and Sabine's designs are always driven by instinct rather than by what already exists. As a result, there is no typical MSDS design language that runs through every product. But the Canadian duo's designs are always passionate and consistent – the two creatives don't even copy themselves.
