The man who made Finland shine
Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was a Finnish industrial designer. He is known as the great pioneer of Finnish lighting design and is affectionately called "the man who made Finland shine". Tynell's designs combine a traditional aesthetic with a modern sensibility and an almost lavish use of perforated and polished brass. The designer took inspiration for the shapes of his lights from nature, which is why many of his designs are reminiscent of tree branches, swirling snowflakes or shells.
