Sylvain Willenz was born in Brussels in Belgium in 1978. From 2001 to 2003, he studied product design at the Royal College of Art in London in the UK. Straight afterwards, in 2004, he opened his own design studio in Brussels.
Willenz's work spans lighting, product design and furniture. It is characterised by a love of materials and manufacturing processes and a "no-nonsense" approach to design that strips products of unnecessary details. The result is work that impresses with its straightforward, uncomplicated character. He uses a wide range of materials, from glass and wood to plastic.
Over the course of his career, Sylvain Willenz has worked with a number of internationally renowned manufacturers, including Vlaemsch and Established & Sons. His products have received several design awards, including the iF Design Award and the Henry van de Velde Prijs.
