Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom make up the design duo TAF Architects. Founded in Stockholm in Sweden in 2002, the studio works internationally in product and interior design.
The Swedish duo's aim is to make everyday life a little less everyday through their designs, taking a fresh look at the objects we use daily. TAF Architects achieves this through subtle but effective changes to classic products. The result is often humorous and thought-provoking.
In doing so, TAF Architects draws on traditional virtues: wood plays a central role in Gustafson and Ståhlbom's work, as this natural material has always been part of the Scandinavian design tradition. TAF Architects is convinced that Nordic design, with its social values and classic materials, will maintain its high standing – and so the duo keeps adding interesting new aspects to everyday furniture.
The approach soon proved successful: TAF Architects' products have been exhibited at MoMA in New York in the USA and are part of the permanent collection of Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen in Denmark. Their clients include well-known manufacturers such as Muuto and Skagerak. The E27 Socket Pendant Lamp shows that beauty lies in simplicity.
