English designer and artist Thomas Heatherwick was born in London in the UK in 1970. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1994, he designed a shop façade for Harvey Nichols.
In 1994, he founded Heatherwick Studio with the aim of "bringing architecture, design and sculpture together in a single practice". The studio has since grown into a team of architects, landscape architects, designers and engineers. Heatherwick's work spans office and residential projects, masterplans, infrastructure and public art.
In 2004, he curated an exhibition at the Design Museum featuring 1,000 design objects that he had collected from "everyday" life. His clients include developers, public companies, sovereign wealth funds, religious organisations, the UK government, regional authorities, foundations, a school, luggage companies, landowners, museums and private individuals.
As a product designer, Thomas Heatherwick created designs for Italian manufacturer Magis, including the spinning Spun chair.
