Rational design from Denmark and Iceland
Based in Copenhagen in Denmark, the Danish-Icelandic duo Hee Welling and Gudmundur Ludvik prove that even basics can be reinterpreted. Their furniture stands out for its clean, simple lines: everything superfluous is removed, leaving the raw product and its pure function visible. For Welling & Ludvik, furniture should serve its purpose without disrupting the look of a room or drawing too much attention. That's why, as the product takes shape, the designer increasingly holds back their creativity in favour of rationality. Creativity and imagination are important for the initial process, but in the end, the product's functionality should clearly prevail.
Of course, it is still important to them to produce beautifully crafted furniture that fits naturally into the home and becomes part of everyday life. To achieve this, the duo constantly experiments with new materials and innovative manufacturing processes, creating durable, timeless products that address the everyday problems of modern society and make life a little easier.
