Ross Lovegrove

Born in Wales in 1958, Ross Lovegrove counts to the most important contemporary product-designers today.

After his graduation in 1980 at the Manchester Polytechnic and a master degree in 1983 at the Royal College of Art, he initially worked as designer for Frog Design (Germany) at projects such as the Walkman for Sony and Computers for Apple.

Ross Lovegroove moved to Paris in 1984, working for Knoll International as consultant. Finally he was invited to become a member of the Atelier de Nimes together with Philippe Starck, working together with numerous French manufacturers afterwards. Among them were Cacharel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Dupont.

He went back to London in 1988 leading a studio together with Julian Brown. He founded his own studio in the year 1990: Studio X. The customers-list of Ross Lovegrove is read as a „WhoisWho“ of international design: Cappelini, Sony, Apple, Driade, Luceplan, Edra, Biomega, Moooi, Zanotta, Mandarina Duck, Kartell, Artemide, Herman Miller...

Ross Lovegrove is an all-round talent and often gets his aesthetic ideas out of the form-stock of nature. He himself titles his designs as „Organic Dreams“ connecting ergonomics and sensuality. His objects reflect high psychological skills to user’s demands; a talent which can hardly be surpassed by contemporary British design. His conviction is that „design can improve our lives“.

Besides numerous international awards which his works made him win, these are exposed in numerous museums such as the MoMa New York, the Guggenheim Museum New York, in the Japanese Axis Centre, in the Centre Pompidou in Paris and other renowned museums.
