Handmade lampshades from Denmark
The first lampshade by the Danish design manufacturer Le Klint was created in the early 20th century by the architect P.V. Jensen Klint. Klint designed the shade for a paraffin lamp, shaping it by hand with many different pleats and folds into a one-of-a-kind piece. Together with his family and friends, he refined the design of the lampshade. In 1943, his creative son Tage Klint finally turned the family's handicraft into a business and founded the company "Le Klint".
Craftsmanship still comes first at Le Klint today: every lampshade is given its shape by hand. Each one starts with staff who have completed a long training: first a one-year trainee programme, in which they learn the folding techniques, followed by another two to three years until they master the folds for all the standard models.
Besides craftsmanship, several other important factors contribute to the company's success. Every shade is built around the light source so that the lamp does not dazzle. In addition, the technical features are constantly being developed and adapted to current living needs, without losing sight of the overall harmony of the design. Today, Le Klint is a modern manufacturer that preserves its strong craft tradition.
Not least thanks to its collaboration with both established architects and young designers, Le Klint is one of Denmark's most important design manufacturers, known for high-quality handmade products and innovative design ideas.
