Description

Poster featuring iconic furniture

Like many of his other pieces of furniture, Alvar Aalto designed his Armchair 41 for a specific building: The armchair was originally designed for the clinic in Paimio, after which it is named, but from there it quickly began its triumphant march around the world. Since the Armchair 41 Paimio is made entirely of birch wood, its silhouette is extremely slender. Thanks to the curved, supple birch wood, the armchair nevertheless has springy qualities that make it more comfortable than it appears at first glance. Thanks to these qualities, the Armchair 41 Paimio has become one of Aalto’s most famous pieces of furniture. Artek acknowledges this by dedicating the Icon Poster Paimio to the armchair. The German design duo Greige has depicted the armchair in its iconic form, using a pictogram-like style, so that anyone can now bring this design classic into their home without taking up much living space.
