Havana Floor Lamp

Oval Floor Lamp

“ Havana ” is a floor lamp by Foscarini that lives up to its name and strongly resembles the shape of a cigar. When it went into production in 1993, it marked a small revolution for Foscarini .

Material

Until designer Jozeph Forakis came up with the idea for “ Havana ” in 1993, the Italian manufacturer Foscarini had always made its lamps out of glass. Even “ Havana ”—the large cigar that sways gently in the air—was originally intended to be made of glass. However, after the executives at Foscarini saw Forakis’s design, they agreed with the designer that plastic (polyethylene) was the most suitable material. Polyethylene proved to be the right choice for the lamp, which was intended to be fresh and light, approachable, and versatile. In addition, Jozeph Forakis had come up with the idea of manufacturing the lamp with separate segments, which brings out its design even more clearly.

Light

The light emitted by the “ Havana ” floor lamp is pure, simple, yet not mundane. It is intended to optimally illuminate a specific area in a living space.

Design

The design, materials, and concept soon gained recognition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and “ Havana ” became part of this important museum’s permanent collection. The “ Havana ” floor lamp is also available in yellow and ice colors, as well as with a chrome-plated frame and a dimmer. Additionally, “ Havana ” can be ordered as an outdoor, wall, or pendant lamp.
