Hovering on a detachable stand—which resembles a fishing rod made of composite material and is height-adjustable via weights—the Foscarini Twiggy is a simple yet ingenious idea from plastics expert Sadler, who has made the perfection of composite materials his goal. In this way, the Twiggy has already become an icon of the corporate philosophy of Foscarini . The Twiggy’s shade guarantees direct illumination of the area below as well as—thanks to the transparency of the upper protective cover—a pleasant ambient light. With the LED version of the Twiggy, Foscarini also sought to preserve the strong emotional impact of the original model. And so, Twiggy LED —following a lengthy process of lighting research—delivers the same warm ambiance as the original, while adding additional benefits in terms of energy savings, efficiency, and the light source’s lifespan. Another advantage of the LED version is its dimmability. The Foscarini Twiggy LED includes 4 counterweights that are inserted into the corresponding sockets above the diffuser to adjust its height. The LED chips were specially developed by Foscarini to achieve a high color rendering index (CRI) and maintain the same light tone as a halogen light source (Kelvin). The two LED chips in the Twiggy are mounted on an aluminum plate that acts as a heat sink. Additional shafts for extending the arc are available upon request; the transparent cable houses both the on/off switch for the Twiggy LED as well as the dimmer for stepless adjustment of the light intensity.
