The curved, wave-like shape is widely regarded as the hallmark of Alvar Aalto’s products and buildings. The Scandinavian architect and designer perfected this form in his design for his legendary vase. Designed in 1936 for the World’s Fair in Paris and first mass-produced in 1937, the vase has not only become a flagship product of the company Iittala but has also emerged as one of the most famous glass objects in the world. The famous “Savoy & ” hotel & certainly contributed to this fame, as it decorated every table in Helsinki with this very vase. As a result, many people took notice of this vase design—which was completely novel at the time—and the Aalto vase was henceforth known as the “ & ‘Savoy Vase’ & .”
