A Modern Chair with a Classic Shape

The 118 M by Sebastian Herkner for Thonet is a modern chair whose shape is reminiscent of the classic bentwood chairs by Thonet and whose subtle elegance makes it an eye-catcher at any dining table. Another source of inspiration for Sebastian Herkner was the “Frankfurt Chair,” developed in the 1930s and long used as a versatile chair. Herkner likes to call his new design for Thonet the “Offenbach Chair,” in reference to his hometown.

Curved seat frame with contoured seat

The timeless 118 M chair draws inspiration from the 214 bentwood chair in the shape of its curved seat frame. The chair’s legs introduce new elements. Rounded at the back, subtle edges on the front of the legs create a subtle contrast that makes the chair truly distinctive. Refined details give the 118 M chair a less dominant appearance while also lending it a touch of elegance. This makes it highly versatile and allows it to be integrated into a wide variety of settings—both in private homes and public spaces. The 118 M is available in natural beech, as well as in lacquered and stained finishes. The 118 M is also optionally available with a seat featuring Viennese wickerwork.
