209 Bentwood Chair

Classic café chair with armrests

The “ 209 ” bentwood chair by the Thonet brothers was introduced as early as 1900 and is a variation of the famous Café Chair 214, designed by Michael Thonet , the inventor of the bentwood technique. Unlike the 214 chair, the “ 209 ” model features a sweeping arch that serves as both the backrest and armrest, offering even greater comfort.

using steam and, like the 214 chair, consists of six parts. The seat is available with a choice of wicker, leather, or fabric upholstery. The wicker option, which is reinforced with a transparent and sturdy plastic mesh, is particularly recommended for chairs that are subjected to heavy use.

A classic chair by Thonet

Not only was the Swiss architect Le Corbusier a fan of the “ 209 ” chair by Thonet and used it to furnish his buildings, but even today, this classic bentwood chair can still be found in numerous homes and cafés, where—thanks to its high-quality craftsmanship—it offers style and comfort in equal measure.
