Designed in 1950 by Hvidt &, and Mølgaard, the AX Lounge Chair HM11 lounge chair with armrests for & & Tradition holds a unique place in the postwar design landscape and embodies the democratic design movement of that era. The Danish duo, already known for their Portex series, participated in the “International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design & ” at the & in 1948 alongside design luminaries such as Hans J. Wegner and Charles Eames. The worldwide attention led to the development of the AX collection, which showcased the innovative technology of laminated veneer. This series, praised for its comfort without upholstery, earned Hvidt & & Mølgaard international recognition, including the prestigious Diplôme d & ’Honneur at the 195 1. The AX Chair became an icon, known as the most comfortable wooden chair, and can be seen in museums around the world.
